There and Back Again

There hasn’t been anything new here for a while and I’ve surely forgotten how to use some of the functions and features on WordPress, but I needed to take a bit of break from blogging weekly while I was writing my last novel. I’ve finished my 4th manuscript now and am immensely proud of it. It was difficult but I think it came out very well. Everything we all work on is difficult in its own way. Now that I’m taking a little bit of break from writing while I do some revisions and beta reading I should be much more active her. In the future I will probably switch to a monthly schedule when actively writing a 1st draft.

For today I think a catch up is due.

All sorts of things have happened since I’ve been on here last and I’m sure I’ll share those with you over the coming weeks. For today I think a short catch up is due. I’ve read finished the first two books of the Storm Light Archive, both excellent books. I’ve started reading Uprooted and have discovered literally today that The Dresden Files seem like an excellent series base off the first audio book I’m listening too. I think I may go through and read it eventually.

I’ve had changes personally with family as we always do. My mother moved off to Georgia in June, my sister lives out there so it odd not having her around now. Of course my mom wants my wife and I to come out and visit in Georgia, but flying out there seems…risky? I don’t know if risky is the right word, but I haven’t been on a plane since Covid came around and it seems foreign I suppose. If I head out to Georgia this winter it should be a fun trip because I’ll be able to see my niece and nephews, they’re starting to get to the age where they want to know their relatives.

The bees that we keep have been a royal pain in the but. The queen either died or was killed and there was much bee wrangling to be done. We had to replace her with a new queen because the hive didn’t look like it was making any queen cells to replace her. I won’t go into detail here, but the colony did not want to make it easy on us so we had to fuss with them a lot in accepting their new leader. All is going well with the hive now though, they look rather strong headed into winter.

…buying a house in coastal California is exasperatingly difficult

My wife and I made an offer on a house in a nearby town. It was a good experience for us. We learned a lot and now have our heads pointed in the right direction with what sort of house we want to buy. I think you can tell how this went with how I’m talking about it. We didn’t end up buying the house, but I’ll talk more about that eventually as well. For now all I’ve got to say about this is that buying a house in coastal California is exasperatingly difficult.

Today is really just a little impromptu highlight of things that have been happening in my life as of late. Most of these things I’ve already talked about on Twitter if you follow me there. I’ll be fully revisiting these things here in the coming weeks, so there should be some different things to look forward to.

I don’t think I have much else other than to say, writing is great and don’t ever forget that! Hope all is well with everyone out there.
